Martin Luther

Martin Luther (1483-1546) was a German monk, theologian, and church reformer who initiated the Protestant Reformation. Born in Saxony, Luther was trained as a lawyer but decided to become a monk. While studying the Bible, he came to disagree with several key teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, particularly the sale of indulgences and the authority of the Pope. In 1517, he famously posted his "Ninety-Five Theses" on the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church, which challenged the Church's practices and sparked a wider movement for reform. Luther's ideas and writings gained widespread support, and he became a central figure in the development of the new Protestant tradition. He translated the Bible into German, making it accessible to the general population and contributing to the growth of German nationalism. William Carey

William Carey (1761-1834) was an English Baptist evangelist, linguist, and educator who worked in India. He was born in Northamptonshire, England, and trained as a shoemaker. Carey was inspired by a sermon by John Wesley to dedicate his life to mission work and he became a Baptist preacher. In 1793, Carey set sail for India, where he spent the rest of his life as a teacher, translator, and cultural reformer. He founded the Serampore College and was instrumental in the translation and publication of the Bible into various Indian languages. 

Cloud of Witnesses: A. B. Simpson

Albert Benjamin Simpson, also known as A.B. Simpson, was a Canadian preacher and theologian who founded the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) in 1887. He was born in 1843 in Bay of Quinte, Canada and grew up in a Presbyterian home. In 1881, he founded the Gospel Tabernacle in New York City, which became the headquarters of the C&MA. Simpson's teachings emphasized the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the need for a deeper spiritual experience, and the power of the Holy Spirit. He also emphasized the unity of all believers and the importance of missions. Simpson also wrote several books, including "The Fourfold Gospel" and "The Christ in the Bible," which continue to be widely read today. He died 29 October 1919 in Nyack, New York, United States.

George Frideric Handel

George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) was a German-born British composer and conductor of the Baroque era. He was born in Halle, Germany, and showed a prodigious talent for music from an early age. He studied music in Hamburg and Italy, where he developed a strong interest in opera. In 1710, he moved to London, where he established himself as a leading composer and conductor.  He wrote numerous operas, including "Rinaldo," "Julius Caesar," and "Ariodante," as well as oratorios, including the famous "Messiah." Handel was also a skilled organist and harpsichordist, and his works have had a profound influence on classical music and popular culture.
